Taxes? We have been led to believe by the experts on coffee row that there are taxes on all used RVs purchased at an RV dealership while on the other hand there are no taxes on a unit purchased privately on someone’s driveway. Is this true and if not, what are the tax implications on a used RV? I don’t like paying any more #*%# taxes than I have to. Brad W., Regina

In the case of a private purchase you are required to pay the PST even if purchased ’on the driveway’. When you insure and plate ’private sales’ at SGI you will be charged the PST and the issuer will submit it on your behalf. Dealers submit both PST and GST on your behalf, but if you are trading an existing unit they are authorized to give you a credit for both taxes in the amount of your trade. Cheer up, Brad… the politicians I spoke to last promised not to waste any of those tax dollars you do pay.
